Task Scheduler fix for Windows ME

Task Scheduler fix for Windows ME :

Whenever I scheduled a task to run in the task Scheduler it wouldn't run at all. When I looked at the Task Scheduler log it would give the following error message:

An error has occurred that will negatively affect the operation of the service.

The specific error is: 0x00000002: The system cannot find the file specified. Try using the Task page Browse button to locate the application.

To open Task Scheduler:

- Left click Start
- Left click Programs
- Left click Accessories
- Left click System Tools
- Left click Scheduled Tasks

or

- Right click My Computer
- Left click Explore
- Double left click Control Panel
- Double left click Scheduled Tasks - you will now be in the Task Scheduler program

To look at the Task Scheduler log:

- On the menu bar, which is immediately below the title bar which is at the top of the window, left click Advanced
- Left click View log- a separate window appears that is the log file - you can see dates and messages that tell you whether or not a task was run and if it didn't run the reason why it did not

The problem was that the volume label for the C drive was the same as the folder that Task Scheduler resides in. On my system the volume label for the C drive was WINME which is the same as the folder that Task Scheduler resides in. The solution was simple: Change the C drive volume label.

To do this:

- Right click My Computer
- Left click Explore
- Right click C:
- Left click Properties - On the General tab you will see Label: next to the description that is the volume label.
- Delete this description and type in a new one that is not the same as the folder Task Scheduler resides in - Task Scheduler will reside in the folder that you installed the operating system to which is usually C:\Windows
